Actress Nimisha Sajayan has revealed that a real-life courtroom visit fundamentally changed how she approached her character in the upcoming socio-political thriller 'Enna Vilai', directed by Sajeev Pazhoor. The film, which pairs Nimisha with actor Karunas, is among the more anticipated Tamil releases of the season.

The Courtroom Visit That Changed Everything

Nimisha, who plays a lawyer in the film, says her earlier understanding of how legal arguments unfold in court was upended the moment she sat through actual proceedings. Speaking about the experience, she said, 'I have portrayed a lawyer in an earlier film, but my experience with Enna Vilai gave me an entirely different perspective. Director Sajeev Pazhoor asked me to visit a courtroom and closely observe the proceedings. Until then, I had a certain perception of how lawyers presented their arguments. However, witnessing the proceedings in person completely changed my understanding. The arguments, conversations, and overall atmosphere were far more natural and realistic than I had imagined. That experience significantly influenced the way I approached the character, particularly the dialogue delivery and courtroom portions.'

A Reunion Nine Years in the Making

Enna Vilai marks a creative reunion between Nimisha and Pazhoor after nine years. Pazhoor was the writer of 'Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum' — the critically acclaimed film that launched Nimisha as a lead actress. This time, however, he steps into the director's chair for the first time on a project she is part of.

Reflecting on the significance of that reunion, Nimisha said, 'Sajeev Pazhoor was the writer of Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, the film through which I made my debut as a lead actress. Nine years later, he brought me on board for a project written and directed by him, which makes Enna Vilai extremely special to me. I have known and admired him as a writer, but through this film, I had the opportunity to witness his vision and abilities as a filmmaker for the first time. I feel immensely happy and proud to be part of this important journey in his career.'

What the Film Is About

Set against a socially relevant backdrop, Enna Vilai centres on the practice of devotees offering coins into the sea near Rameswaram. The story follows the unexpected chain of events triggered when an individual attempts to retrieve those submerged coins. What begins as a personal struggle rooted in dignity and survival gradually escalates into a significant legal battle — one whose eventual verdict, the makers suggest, could draw nationwide attention.

The film features an ensemble cast including Vijayalakshmi Ahathian, Chiththa Darshan, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Y.G. Mahendran, Motta Rajendran, Nizhalgal Ravi, Praveena, Mohan Ram, Chetan Kumar, Kavithalaya Krishnan, Kamalesh, Goli Soda Pandi, J.S. Kavi, Swaminathan, Deepa Shankar, and Kavi Nakkalites, among others. The film is produced by Githesh V under Kalamaya Films, with music by Sam C.S, cinematography by Alby Antony, and editing by Sreejith Sarang. A release date is yet to be announced officially.
