Tamil socio-political family thriller 'Enna Vilai', starring Nimisha Sajayan and Karunaas, has been officially selected for the Kaia International Film Festival 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey — adding another international milestone to a film that previously won the Best Feature Film award at the Mannheim Arts and Film Festival in Germany. The film, written and directed by Sajeev Pazhoor, is slated for a theatrical release in September 2026.

Actress Nimisha Sajayan announced the selection on her Instagram page, writing: 'Our film #EnnaVilai has been officially selected for the Kaia International Film Festival 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey. In Theatres | September 2026. Written and Directed by @sajeevpazhoor.' The Istanbul selection follows a growing international footprint for a film that has drawn sustained attention from critics and festival programmers alike.

Produced by Kalamaya Films under the banner of producer Githesh V, the film also features Y. Gee. Mahendran, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mohan Ram, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, Kavithalayaa Krishna, Deepa Shankar, Mottai Rajendran, Nakkalites Kavi, and a strong ensemble cast.

Award Pedigree Before Release

'Enna Vilai' has already earned the Best Screenplay Award at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, in addition to its Best Feature Film win in Germany. Securing two major international recognitions before a domestic theatrical release is uncommon for regional Indian cinema and signals the film's crossover ambition.

A Village, Not a Star, Unveiled the Film

One of the more distinctive chapters in 'Enna Vilai's journey was its first-look launch. Rather than staging a celebrity-driven reveal or a digital campaign, the makers returned to Paalam village in Dhanushkodi — where a significant portion of the film was shot — and handed the honour to the local community.

Producer Githesh V explained the decision: 'Every film has a beginning, but very few get the opportunity to begin with gratitude... The villagers of Paalam welcomed us with immense warmth and made us feel at home throughout the shoot. We felt it was only right that this honour belonged to them. More than a promotional event, this was our heartfelt way of saying thank you.'

Director Sajeev Pazhoor echoed that sentiment: 'As filmmakers, we often borrow places to tell our stories. But sometimes, those places and the people living there become a part of the story itself... Before the film reaches audiences across the world, we wanted it to first belong to the people who stood beside us from the very beginning.
