Mumbai, December 20 (NationPress) Lyricist Prashant Pandey, renowned for the acclaimed track “O Sajni Re” from Laapataa Ladies, has shared insights into how the film’s creators, Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and Ram Sampath, exhibited remarkable clarity in their vision, which significantly aided him in crafting a song that achieved remarkable popularity.

Discussing the creative journey behind O Sajni Re, Prashant mentioned, “The journey started with Ram Sampath, who provided me with the initial concept for ‘O Sajni Re.’ I instinctively penned the first draft, and it resonated deeply.”

“Both Kiran Rao and Ram Sampath emphasized that the film conveyed a straightforward, village-centered narrative—honest, direct, and uncomplicated, devoid of intricate metaphors. For the song Beda Paar, Aamir Khan envisioned a bidaai song that exuded playfulness, optimism, and a forward-looking spirit. Collaborating with such clarity and trust during my debut film was an immense learning opportunity, and simplifying my writing became the most significant lesson.”

Prashant further elaborated on the song’s unforeseen emotional impact, the creative dynamics involved, and how his life transformed following the film’s success.

Reflecting on the overwhelming response to “O Sajni Re”, he remarked, “I realized the song had genuinely resonated with audiences when it started gaining traction beyond the film. That reaction was incredibly humbling, reinforcing my belief that I had penned something sincere, always remembering that the song serves the narrative first.”

He continued, “The affection I received for my inaugural song feels like a beautiful and unexpected blessing, especially for a debut that garnered recognition across esteemed platforms.”

Discussing his journey since the film's tremendous success, Prashant shared that he has been engaged in numerous projects.

“Post Laapataa Ladies, the industry response has been very promising. I have connected with various filmmakers and composers and have been working on multiple briefs.”

He added, “Since then, I’ve co-written ‘Humsafar’ from Saiyaara, contributed to Gutar Gu, and worked on various singles. I am also penning for the independent film Ghar and collaborating on upcoming projects with TVF. I feel thankful for the trust I’ve garnered in such a brief period.”

Concluding his thoughts on his personal connection to Laapataa Ladies, he stated, “Writing for the film felt very intimate to me. I hail from Suwasra in Madhya Pradesh, the same area where the film was filmed, so the language, rhythms, and daily life resonated naturally.”

He added, “I composed these songs during the Covid period while residing in my hometown, surrounded by familiar landscapes and people. Although I’ve lived and worked in large cities, my small-town sensibility remains and profoundly influenced my relationship with the film.”

Prashant is also recognized for co-writing “Humsafar” from Saiyaara and “Naaraz” from Gutar Gu Season 3.

The film features notable actors such as Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles.

Directed by Kiran Rao, the movie is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande, with music by Ram Sampath.
