Oscar Nomination Voting Deadline Extended by Two Days Due to Fires in Southern California

Los Angeles, Jan 9 (NationPress) The wildfires in Southern California have disrupted social interactions and are now affecting the entertainment industry.

The deadline for Oscar nomination voting has been postponed by two days due to these fires. Voting for nearly 10,000 members of the Academy commenced on January 8 and was initially set to conclude on January 12, according to Variety.

The new deadline is now January 14, with the announcement of nominations, which was originally scheduled for January 17, being moved to January 19.

According to Variety, Conan O’Brien has been chosen to host the 2025 Oscars ceremony, taking place on March 2. The Academy communicated these date adjustments to its members through an email from CEO Bill Kramer on Wednesday afternoon.

“We want to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by the catastrophic fires in Southern California,” the email stated, in part. “Many of our members and industry associates reside and work in the Los Angeles area, and our thoughts are with you.”

The screening for the International Feature Shortlist, scheduled for Wednesday evening in Los Angeles, has been postponed to later in the week. Additionally, the in-person Los Angeles Sound Branch Bake-Off and Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch Bake-Offs in Los Angeles and New York City on January 11 have been canceled. The in-person Los Angeles and Bay Area Visual Effects Branch Bake-Offs are also canceled.

The extension of voting occurs as numerous premieres and events in the Los Angeles area have been canceled or delayed due to the devastating fires. Amazon MGM Studios and Universal Studios were the first to cancel their scheduled Tuesday night premieres of ‘Unstoppable’ and ‘Wolf Man’. Similarly, Paramount and Max have canceled their Wednesday premieres for ‘Better Man’ and ‘The Pitt’.
