Los Angeles, March 3 (NationPress) During the 97th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, firefighters from the city took to the stage to share some humorous remarks.
Host Conan O’Brien addressed the audience, stating: “Now, I know this might be hard to believe, but there are some jokes that even I’m not daring enough to share.”
He then invited several first responders, who had bravely faced the destructive Palisades and Eaton wildfires this year, to join him on stage and instructed them: “On my behalf, please read what’s on the prompter.”
Turning back to the crowd, O’Brien reminded them: “Keep in mind — everyone here has to laugh, they’re heroes!”
The first to speak was Erik Scott, the head of the Los Angeles Fire Department, who humorously remarked: “Our thoughts are with those who have lost their homes,” adding, “And I’m referring to the producers of ‘Joker 2.’”
“Joker: Folie à Deux” has been labeled one of the biggest box office flops of 2024. The Warner Bros. sequel, which had a production cost of $200 million and nearly $100 million for marketing and distribution, managed to earn just $206 million worldwide.
“Wow,” O’Brien responded, “that was the best delivery of the night,” as reported by variety.com.
Next, Los Angeles Fire Department pilot Jonas Johnson took a jab at “A Complete Unknown,” a musical biopic chronicling the life of music legend Bob Dylan.
“To portray Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet had to learn how to sing,” Johnson joked. “In fact, his singing was so impressive, he nearly lost the role.”
Fire Department captain Jodi Slicker delivered the final punchline aimed at O’Brien, saying: “It’s wonderful to be back with Conan. Usually, when he calls, he’s caught in a tree.”
O’Brien chimed in: “That’s happened twice!”
