Los Angeles, Jan 16 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio is committing $1 million to assist Los Angeles in its recovery from the catastrophic wildfires.
The Oscar-winning actor shared this news via his Instagram Stories on January 15, indicating that he is partnering with @rewild's Rapid Response Program to contribute to relief efforts, as reported by people.com.
"The Los Angeles wildfires are wreaking havoc on our city. I am dedicating $1 million to support both immediate needs and long-term recovery efforts," he stated.
"Initial funds will directly support the LA Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund — organizations that are vital in providing necessary resources to our first responders, firefighters, and the communities affected," added the “Don't Look Up” star.
Having grown up in L.A., DiCaprio co-founded Re:wild, noting that its Rapid Response Program is uniquely equipped to address environmental crises.
The wildfires that ignited on January 7 have become the most destructive in L.A. history, displacing thousands and resulting in a current death toll of 25.
Additionally, Jamie Lee Curtis announced her family's pledge of $1 million for disaster relief to support "our great city and state and the wonderful people who inhabit it," as she stated on January 9.
