Mumbai, Feb 2 (NationPress) Palash Sen, the singer-composer, has shared his thoughts on the swirling rumors about the acclaimed Arijit Singh stepping back from film playback singing. He empathizes with this choice, as he too faced similar challenges early in his career.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Palash expressed that he “understands why” Arijit is making this transition, noting that he encountered analogous situations in the film industry years ago and ultimately chose to forge his own path outside of it.

On his Instagram account, Palash posted several images from his debut film, “Filhaal,” released in 2002, which was Meghna Gulzar's first project. The film also features actors Sanjay Suri, Tabu, and Sushmita Sen.

He reflected, “24 years ago today, or perhaps on February 2, my first movie as an actor, FILHAAL, hit theaters. It was a flop, and I was harshly criticized by most reviewers and trolled by many in the film industry. One particular model/actress even lectured me on why I shouldn't pursue acting, along with many others (sic).”

Palash admitted that he “wasn’t initially interested in acting.”

“I took this opportunity because I simply wanted to sing a song penned by the greatest poet-writer, Gulzar saab. The fact that the song was to be composed by the legendary Anu Malik was another dream fulfilled for me. I truly don’t understand why I was viewed as a threat (sic).”

He stated that he approached the project with the intention of having fun and doing his best.

“Working alongside the incredible Sushmita, Tabu, and Sanjay was my reward. To be guided by the brilliant Meghna is an experience I cherish greatly. I hold nothing but fond memories of this ahead-of-its-time film. In fact, seeing it gain success on TV today fills me with happiness and gratitude (sic),” he shared.

He then discussed Arijit Singh and his decision to step back from playback singing.

“The reality is, I understand why my brother, Arijit, is withdrawing from film playback. I was there once and chose my own route… a path that I know Arijit will now embark upon (sic).”

Palash continued, “Funny enough, that year I was nominated for every Best Newcomer award, including the Filmfare awards… but I didn’t win anything. Even Euphoria has never claimed any awards. Yet, the love I have received from the people of this country surpasses any accolade (sic).”

On January 27, Arijit made his announcement regarding his cessation of new playback assignments.

He stated, “Hello, wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I want to extend my gratitude to all of you for your immense love throughout the years as listeners. I am pleased to announce that I will not be accepting any new playback assignments moving forward. I am calling it quits. It has been a remarkable journey (sic).”

He also expressed his gratitude to his listeners for their steadfast love and support over the years, describing his journey as a playback singer as “wonderful.”
