Swanand Kirkire Reflects on Arijit Singh’s Retirement: A Potential Return Awaits
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 23 (NationPress) Acclaimed musician Swanand Kirkire has weighed in on Arijit Singh’s rumored retirement from playback singing, expressing that the film music industry still greatly requires the artist, even as he acknowledges Singh's desire to pursue independent music.
Kirkire mentioned that while the relentless pace of Bollywood can be draining, a creative hiatus may enable the celebrated singer to return invigorated.
In his comments regarding Arijit’s retirement and Neha Kakkar’s own break, Kirkire stated to IANS: “It’s unfortunate that Arijit Singh is retiring, as they are youthful and incredibly talented; the film music industry relies heavily on them. Perhaps they have simply reached a point of exhaustion.”
Regarding Arijit, he remarked: “He might be seeking new challenges; he’s a filmmaker and has other aspirations. I trust he has valid reasons for this decision and can afford to step back, especially since many are still trying to carve their path in the industry just as he did.”
“If he is transitioning into independent music, it could be a significant contribution to the musical landscape. He may find rejuvenation and return.”
Kirkire emphasized, “We definitely need his talent and contributions.”
Last month, Arijit Singh made headlines with his announcement of retirement from playback singing. Coincidentally, Neha Kakkar also revealed she is taking a break from her personal and professional duties, citing the necessity to step away from her various obligations.
Kirkire recognizes that the current rhythm of Bollywood music can often lead to fatigue, “because you’re perpetually repeating the same patterns.”
“That’s why I’m also focusing on the independent music scene, just as I believe Arijit intends to,” he added.
The lyricist highlighted the transformative effect of streaming platforms on the music industry, allowing artists to create and share music outside of the film framework.
“With the rise of streaming applications, the music landscape has evolved significantly. Artists can now release music purely for artistic expression, rather than solely for films. Numerous emerging and established artists are pursuing their independent music, which is truly refreshing.”
Kirkire shared insights into his own focus on independent projects alongside his film work, mentioning that he has released several non-film tracks, some of which have garnered positive feedback.
“I have launched five independent songs that are not linked to films. A few of these, such as “Shorgul,” “Meri Jaan,” “Chandawara,” and “Aise Na Humko Dekhe,” are performing well. I collaborated on a video with Sayami and Gulshan Devaiah.”
He also plans to release many more tracks.
“It’s like taking a holiday; you manage your film projects, then carve out your own space to release whatever you desire without any restrictions. Thank you.”
