Actress Pooja Gor says the appetite for heartland storytelling on OTT platforms has fundamentally shifted — and her new series, Looteri Dulhan, is built squarely on that wave. Speaking on 24 May, the actress reflected on how audience tastes have evolved away from glamour-first narratives toward emotionally grounded, region-specific drama.

'Audiences today are deeply interested in rooted stories from the heartland,' Gor said. 'Earlier, glamour-driven stories dominated the screen, but now people want relatable characters and realistic emotions.'

This observation tracks a broader trend visible across the Indian OTT landscape, where shows set in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan have consistently outperformed urban-centric fare in engagement metrics. Series like Mirzapur helped establish small-town crime drama as a bankable genre; the question now is whether family-oriented storytelling from the same geography can replicate that pull.

What Sets Looteri Dulhan Apart

Gor argues that Looteri Dulhan occupies a distinct space within North Indian storytelling. 'What makes Looteri Dulhan special is that it combines drama, comedy, action, suspense, and emotion into one entertaining package,' she said. 'Family entertainers are always important because they bring people together. Thankfully, our series offers that balance while still being thrilling.'

The show, which premiered on Hungama OTT on 19 May, is directed by Glen Barretto and Ankush Mohla. Its central premise follows a series of mysterious cases in which brides loot their grooms and vanish overnight — a premise that blends crime procedural with social commentary.

Gor plays Sub-Inspector Sandhya Yadav, a fearless officer tasked with cracking these cases. But the role, she says, runs deeper than a standard investigator archetype.

'What attracted me to Looteri Dulhan was how emotionally layered Sandhya is,' Gor explained. 'She is strong and fearless on the outside, but internally she's constantly battling judgment, expectations, and the pressure to prove herself. She isn't just solving a case — she's fighting for her own identity in a world that constantly tries to define women in limited ways.'

Gor is widely recognised for her earlier work in the long-running television drama Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya, making her casting as a morally complex police officer a deliberate departure from her established screen persona.
