Priya Bhavani Shankar on Irumudi: 'We made a thousand memories'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tamil actress Priya Bhavani Shankar has described her experience filming director Shiva Nirvana's bilingual drama Irumudi — starring Ravi Teja — as 'a lovely journey', revealing that the bonds forged on set left her with far more than just a screen performance. The film is set for worldwide theatrical release on 21 August 2026.
Priya Bhavani Shankar on Playing Kaveri
Priya plays Kaveri, a caring wife and devoted mother whose warmth anchors the film's emotional core. The story, as seen in promotional material, centres on a deeply felt father-daughter relationship interwoven with themes of faith and personal transformation.
'Kaveri has been a very special character for me,' the actress said. 'When I heard the story and understood the emotional world Shiva Nirvana had created, I felt very happy to be part of such an honest and powerful story. There is a lot of warmth and emotion in the relationships at the heart of Irumudi Kattu, and that made the journey of portraying Kaveri particularly meaningful for me.'
Working With Ravi Teja and Director Shiva Nirvana
Priya spoke warmly about her co-star's on-set presence. 'Working with Ravi Teja has been a wonderful experience. There is such a natural warmth and ease in the way he approaches his work, and that made our scenes together very comfortable and enjoyable,' she said.
She also credited the director's clarity of vision for shaping her performance. 'Shiva has been extremely clear about the emotions he wanted to bring out in every character, and it was a beautiful experience to be guided by his vision,' she added.
Memories Beyond the Film
'When we finally wrapped the film, I realised how much we had taken back from this journey beyond the film itself. We shot so many scenes, made a thousand memories, collected our own inside jokes and shared so many moments of laughter,' Priya said. 'It was one of those journeys where the people you work with become an important part of the memories you carry with you. It truly has been a lovely journey.'
Music, Producers, and the Full Cast
Priya expressed particular appreciation for the score by National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar. 'I love the way G. V. Prakash Kumar's music complements the emotional and devotional world of Irumudi,' she said, adding that she hopes audiences connect with the film's characters and the emotions the team has invested in it.
She also extended her gratitude to producers Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar for bringing her on board. Beyond the lead pair, Irumudi features Sai Kumar, Baby Nakshathra, Ajay Ghosh, Ramesh Indira, and Swasika in key roles. The technical crew includes cinematographer Vishnu Sharma, editor Prawin Pudi, and production designer Sahi Suresh.
