Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 25 (NationPress) Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan, known for creating some of the most memorable comedies in Bollywood, reveals that he does not find humor in his own cinematic creations.
The director shared in a candid interview with IANS that the process of crafting comedy has been among the toughest challenges he has faced throughout his career.
“I have endured significant difficulties while making comedy films. When I revisit my successful films, I simply don't experience laughter,” Priyadarshan expressed during the interview.
He further mentioned that the audience's reactions in cinemas provide him with reassurance regarding the effectiveness of his work. “However, in theaters, I witness the audience's response and the effect it has on them.”
“I believe you cannot watch the same scene over and over. Yet, there are viewers who enjoy it twenty or thirty times,” he added.
Describing comedy as an exceptionally demanding genre, he stated, “This is the hardest genre. Each time I attempt to blend humor with horror or suspense, it sends shivers down my spine. It’s incredibly challenging, and I can confidently say that.”
The director of Bhool Bhulaiyaa concluded thoughtfully, hinting at the possibility of stepping back from the genre. “I think it might be time for me to retire from this business. I've made that decision,” he remarked.
Currently, the esteemed filmmaker is preparing for his next project, Bhoot Bangla, which will see him reuniting with actor Akshay Kumar after several years.
The film also features Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the late veteran star Asrani in prominent roles.
This upcoming film is anticipated to showcase Priyadarshan’s unique blend of humor and chaos.
The much- awaited movie is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2026.
