Chennai, Jan 18 (NationPress) Actor Rajinikanth has revealed that he received his first Best Actor Award for portraying the character of Chandala in a drama performed during an inter-school competition.
This revelation came in a heartfelt message to his former school, Acharya Patha Shala (APS) Public School and College in Bangalore, which is currently commemorating its 90th anniversary.
Speaking in Kannada in the video, Rajinikanth reminisced about his school and college years.
The superstar shared that he was an excellent student while attending a government school where the primary medium of instruction was Kannada. He also recalled serving as the class monitor during his early school days.
During his middle school years, Rajinikanth remembered achieving a score of 98 percent. After this accomplishment, his brother enrolled him in APS, which offered an English-medium curriculum.
Transitioning from a Kannada-medium school, he found adapting to the English-medium challenging. Faced with subjects taught in English, he felt disheartened, shifting from a top-performing student to one lagging behind, which led to feelings of depression.
Fortunately, the teachers at APS displayed compassion and provided him with substantial encouragement and support.
Rajinikanth recounted that he managed to pass the eighth and ninth grades but struggled with the Public examination due to difficulties in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. He fondly remembered a chemistry teacher who offered free tutoring sessions at her home.
While other students were charged for these extra classes, she selflessly tutored Rajinikanth, helping him succeed in the public exam the following year.
Despite his modest exam results, APS welcomed him into their college. He mentioned that he began his first year but could not continue his studies for personal reasons thereafter.
In his message, the actor reflected on the interschool competitions organized by the institution, noting that 10 to 15 schools participated. He enjoyed storytelling and performing for his peers during class delays.
Recognizing his passion, the teachers cast him in the play 'Adishankara and Chandala', where he took on the role of Chandala. Rajinikanth proudly shared that his team won the competition, and he was honored with the title of Best Actor and a trophy. He expressed that the recognition he received in school has since blossomed into his professional career, where he continues to bring joy to audiences through his acting.
It was at this school that the foundation for his acting career was laid, culminating in his performance as Chandala, which earned him the Best Actor award. He also reminisced about the school grounds and playground, where he spent many hours enjoying cricket, football, kabaddi, and more...
