Chennai, Jan 22 (NationPress) The legendary Indo-Japanese animated feature, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’, made an impressive entrance on Tuesday at the Maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj, showcasing a special screening of the film to more than 200 school children.
The children experienced the anime inspired by Valmiki’s Ramayana for the very first time.
This momentous occasion aligns with the first anniversary of the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The welcoming remarks were presented by Asim Arun, the Minister of State for Social Welfare and SC/ST Welfare of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Notably, this marks the inaugural instance of a film debuting prior to its release at the Maha Kumbh festival, a significant event that resonates with the festival's deep spiritual meaning.
The Maha Kumbh mela, celebrated every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, serves as an auspicious avenue to present this cinematic interpretation of Lord Rama's epic journey.
Directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan, ‘Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’ is a distinguished and internationally recognized piece in cinematic history, showcasing the fusion of Indian narrative traditions with exquisite Japanese artistry.
This animated film has generated immense anticipation, capturing the interest of not just cinema enthusiasts and critics, but also India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
It is worth mentioning that just a few days prior, the Finance Minister shared the film's trailer on her X timeline, stating, “A beautiful animated Ramayana. Fondly remember watching this Japanese cultural treasure sometime back. Was screened at (the) International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993. It now releases on the big screen.”
The film is set to hit cinemas across India on January 24, 2025, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and English. It will be distributed in Ultra HD 4K by Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment.
