The shooting of Rahul Sankrityan's highly anticipated period action drama Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, has officially concluded after 130 days of filming, the director confirmed on 17 September 2026. Director Confirms the Wrap

Sankrityan shared the news on his X account alongside a video clip featuring his crew. 'And thats a wrap to the 130 days of madness with my relentless and restless army,' he wrote, tagging the film's official handle, production house Mythri Movie Makers, and both lead actors. The announcement follows a flurry of updates from the unit: just a day prior, the makers revealed that the background music (BGM) for the first half of the film had already been completed, signalling strong post-production momentum.

The Character at the Heart of the Story

Two days before the wrap announcement, Sankrityan had shared a deeply personal post about Rashmika Mandanna's character in the film. The director disclosed that he named the female protagonist Jayamma — after his own mother. 'While writing Ranabaali, I found myself walking down memory lanes for every little detail of its world. And when I sat down to write my female protagonist, I began with something deeply personal, I gave her my mother's name. Jayamma,' he wrote on X. He further described the character as 'the love in Ranabaali's heart. The spirit in his soul. The grit in his spine. And the sweetness in his madness.' Sankrityan added that Mandanna 'didn't just make Jayamma real. She made her eternal for all of us.'

The Story and Its Historical Canvas

Ranabaali is set against a British-era backdrop, rooted in real events that reportedly unfolded between 1854 and 1878. According to sources, the film draws on incidents from the 1850–1900 period that were allegedly misrepresented or suppressed in mainstream historical records, reconstructing the era through oral histories and lesser-known accounts. Notably, the makers have clarified that Ranabaali is not a conventional biopic or a textbook retelling, but rather a cinematic reconstruction built from multiple real sources.

Cast, Production and Reunion Factor

Vijay Deverakonda plays the titular character Ranabaali, while Mandanna portrays his wife, Jayamma. Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo, widely recognised for his role in the classic horror film The Mummy, essays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The film is produced on a grand scale by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting the project.
