Mumbai, Sep 12 (NationPress) It has been 128 years since the 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment made the ultimate sacrifice while defending a remote communication outpost against a fierce attack by 10,000 to 14,000 Afghan tribesmen.
On this significant anniversary, actor Randeep Hooda took to social media to pay tribute to the valiant warriors of the Battle of Saragarhi, expressing that it was a dream he had wished to share with everyone.
In his Instagram post, he remarked: "A dream I missed sharing with the world!! The #BattleOfSaragarhi fought by 21 SIKH soldiers under Hav Ishar Singh of 4 SIKH (then XXXVI SIKH) in Sep 1897, remains a legendary tale of Courage and Sacrifice. These soldiers stood their ground at 6,000 feet in the NWF Province (now in Pakistan), facing thousands of Pathan attackers, all of whom were awarded the IOM. Recognized by UNESCO as one of the eight most heroic battles in history, their indomitable spirit embodies the notion of ‘Last Man, Last Round.’
Commemorating the heroes who faced death with unwavering resolve, he further stated, "On 12th Sep 1897, these 22 men held their ground until their last breath, protecting their post with unparalleled bravery. Their legacy continues to inspire us all today."
As a mark of respect, Hooda expressed, "Our deepest homage to the fallen heroes and heartfelt congratulations to 4 SIKH on their 128th Saragarhi Day. May WAHEGURU JI bless the battalion, and may they continue to flourish. Regards and FATEHS."
For those unfamiliar, Hooda starred in a film titled Battle of Saragarhi, based on this epic event; however, the project was ultimately shelved.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi had announced the Battle of Saragarhi film back in 2016 with Hooda cast as Havildar Ishar Singh—a role later portrayed by Akshay Kumar in his 2018 film Kesari.
