Actress Raveena Tandon has shared a deeply personal account of how she and her daughter Rasha Tandon narrowly missed embarking on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra — a journey that was cancelled just two days before a catastrophic glacial collapse devastated the Nepal-Tibet border region in late August. Speaking publicly for the first time about the incident, Raveena described the experience as a reaffirmation of her faith in divine timing.

The Cancelled Pilgrimage

Raveena made the revelation during the semi-finale episode of India's Best Dancer Season 5, where she spoke candidly about her spiritual journey. She recalled that following her father's demise in 2022, she completed a pilgrimage covering all 12 Jyotirlingas. She and Rasha had subsequently planned to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra together — a trek considered among the most spiritually significant for Hindu pilgrims.

However, their visas were cancelled shortly before the scheduled departure, leaving both mother and daughter deeply disappointed. Raveena said she chose, at that moment, to place her trust in a higher plan rather than despair over the setback.

“Maine itna bola Mahadev ka kuch toh kaaran hoga, there has to be a reason that we are not going. Jab woh bulayenge tab apne aap hum chale jayenge,” she said, translating roughly to: ‘I simply said that Mahadev must have a reason for this; there has to be a reason why we are not going. When He calls us, we will automatically go.’

The full weight of that cancelled visa, she said, only became apparent days later. “We were so disappointed that it got cancelled, and two days later we came to know that the glacier collapsed. It was a man-made disaster,” Raveena stated. She further reflected: “It is God’s way to save you from every situation.”

On 26 August, a major rock-and-ice collapse in Nepal’s Langtang region triggered catastrophic flooding and debris flows, causing widespread destruction across Nepal and the Nepal-Tibet border region. The disaster severely disrupted the traditional Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage route. Gyirong Port — a critical gateway used by Indian pilgrims crossing into Tibet — was among the areas worst affected, with the entry point left completely devastated by the floods.

Notably, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra draws thousands of Indian pilgrims annually and any disruption to the route carries both spiritual and logistical consequences for devotees who plan the journey months in advance.
