Vilasrao Deshmukh, who served as the former Union Minister for Science and Technology and was a past Chief Minister of Maharashtra, passed away in Chennai on August 14, 2012, at the age of 67 due to multiple organ failure. His political career began as the sarpanch of Babhalgaon, and he served as Maharashtra's Chief Minister for a total of eight years, first taking office in 1999 before being succeeded by Sushilkumar Shinde in November 2003.
