Mumbai, April 10 (NationPress) Actor Ritwik Bhowmik, who portrays Sagor in the newly launched streaming series 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter', has a deep admiration for Kolkata. Having spent a significant amount of time in what was formerly the capital of the East India Company, he perceives the city as possessing a unique allure, seamlessly woven into the fabric of time.
In a recent interview with IANS, Ritwik discussed how arriving in Kolkata dramatically shifted his perspective on his character, alongside co-actor Aadil Khan.
The actor shared with IANS, “We conducted workshops in Mumbai, had a script in hand, establishing a foundation and structure for our characters. We knew where we were starting from and aimed to make it our own. We rehearsed extensively to grasp the dynamics between Sagor and Ranjeet, along with their backgrounds. However, it wasn't until we set foot in Kolkata, experienced its air, and tasted its water that we truly began to comprehend the essence of our roles.”
He added that he and Aadil arrived in Kolkata 2-3 days before filming commenced, spending that time exploring the streets, sipping tea, enjoying local delicacies, and conversing with residents to immerse themselves in the city's atmosphere.
“In those few days, we realized that the script lines came alive in a different manner, providing a unique interpretation and deeper understanding, shaped by what we observed around us. I can only imagine how our perceptions would have evolved had we stayed for a few months,” he reflected.
“Kolkata has its own rhythm, an energy that resonated with us, and it was truly enchanting. The tempo there is distinct. Kolkata feels like it is 100 years behind and 100 years ahead at the same time,” he noted.
‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ is available for streaming on Netflix.
