Rupali Ganguly Shares Her Journey of Rejection in Audition with Rajan Shahi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 29 (NationPress) Renowned television actress Rupali Ganguly recently shared her experience of early career rejection, recounting how filmmaker Rajan Shahi had dismissed her during her initial audition days.
In an honest discussion with Farah Khan on her YouTube vlog, Rupali opened up about her unique path to television, despite her roots in the Bollywood film industry.
Farah, who noted her connection to Rupali’s father, Anil Ganguly, a celebrated filmmaker, inquired about Rupali’s transition to television after her previous film roles.
Rupali recounted, “I abandoned everything to attend a catering college. I enrolled at Dadar Catering with the intention of becoming a chef because the salary is lucrative.”
She continued, “However, once the acting passion grips you, it’s hard to let go. I began doing theatre with Janak Toprani and Dinesh Kapoor. It was during this time that Shobha De spotted me and cast me in her show Sukanya. But before that project could launch, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi commenced, which was Rajan Shahi's debut as a director.”
“During my audition with Rajan ji, I faced rejection as he halted my performance midway and said, 'Okay, fine.' I was taken aback because there were many candidates, and I had no knowledge of the role. Later, I learned it was for a double role, which prompted me to request another audition,” she shared.
Rupali added, “The following day, I returned, seeking a second chance. He consented and had me perform multiple scenes—about eight—over the course of three to three-and-a-half hours. Ultimately, he cast me, marking the beginning of my television journey.”
The Sarabhai vs Sarabhai star reflected on her extensive career, noting, “My debut show aired in 2000, which means I’ve been in the industry for approximately 26 years. I did take a break of about six to six-and-a-half years for my son, Rudransh.”
Rupali is currently famous for her portrayal of the lead character in the popular series Anupamaa, where her emotional dialogues and scenes often go viral on social media.
On a personal note, Rupali is married to Ashwin Verma, an advertising professional, and they share a son, Rudransh. Her brother, Vijay Ganguly, is a well-known choreographer in Bollywood and is currently thriving in his field.
