Music composer Sachin Sanghvi, one half of the celebrated duo Sachin–Jigar, has opened up about the contrasting temperaments that drive their creative partnership — and why that tension is precisely what makes it work. The remarks came during promotions for their latest film album 'Chand Mera Dil', released under Sony Music India.

Two Sides of the Coin

Sachin describes his role in the partnership as the stabilising force to Jigar Saraiya's restless, all-consuming creative energy. 'We are two people. So, we are two sides of the coin,' he said. 'I think my job is to rationalize the chaos he has. He is a rebel. He doesn't sleep. Sometimes he wakes up with the fear that if I don't make a song today, then?'

Sachin noted that Jigar's intensity — particularly his childlike excitement at encountering a new instrument — is something he draws inspiration from, even as he works to channel it. 'There is a childlike hunger when he sees a new instrument. I feed off all these things,' he added.

How Sachin Finds His Own Creative Space

Interestingly, Sachin's own composing process is almost the inverse of his partner's studio-bound immersion. 'If I want to compose a song, I cannot do that in front of equipment. I don't want to get tied up inside the studio,' he said, without elaborating on his preferred setting. He acknowledged that recognising and accepting these differences has been key to the duo's longevity. 'We have learned to shed inhibitions,' he said.

Validation as a Creative Tool

Beyond managing workflow, Sachin sees emotional reinforcement as a core part of his contribution. 'Lots of times my job is to tell Jigar that you have done an amazing job. Sometimes to rationalize him. To bring in the order basically in this process,' he explained. The dynamic, he stressed, is not one-directional — when Sachin himself becomes chaotic, Jigar steps in to provide calm.

Video Games and the Art of Stepping Away

Sachin also revealed an unconventional coping mechanism: picking up his phone and playing video games mid-session, even in high-pressure moments. 'In very dangerous situations, I pick up my mobile and play video games. I feel that if I steal a glance from him for 2 minutes then I get help from somewhere,' he said. He framed the habit not as distraction but as a reset — a brief mental break that feeds back into the work.

'Chand Mera Dil' marks the duo's latest collaboration for the big screen, with the album out now on Sony Music India.
