New Delhi, Nov 24 (NationPress) Renowned former Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar shared a poignant tribute on social media, expressing sorrow over the loss of the legendary actor Dharmendra. Remembering him as a monumental figure, Tendulkar described his energy as “remarkably infectious.” The cricket icon conveyed deep respect for the Bollywood luminary, highlighting his timeless influence that resonated with audiences across various generations worldwide.

“Like many, I was immediately drawn to Dharmendra ji, the versatile entertainer. Our connection deepened when I met him in person. His energy was truly infectious, and he often used to say to me, “Tumko dekhkar ek kilo khoon badh jaata hai mera.”

“His innate warmth made everyone around him feel cherished and significant. It's impossible not to admire the remarkable person he was. Today, my heart is heavy with grief. It feels like I've lost 10 kilos of blood. I will miss you dearly,” Tendulkar expressed on X.

After experiencing breathing difficulties, the 89-year-old Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai and was reportedly placed on a ventilator. Despite showing signs of improvement and being discharged to recover at his home in Juhu, the veteran actor passed away on Monday.

Born in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra is recognized as one of the enduring stars of Indian cinema. His career began in the late 1950s when Filmfare magazine, in collaboration with Bimal Roy Productions, launched a nationwide search for new talent in Hindi films. He entered the contest and triumphed in 1958, quickly standing out due to his good looks and natural charisma.

Years later, a similar contest introduced another star, Rajesh Khanna, to the industry. Dharmendra's ascent to stardom was rapid, as he became a beloved figure across various genres, including romance, action, and comedy, thanks to his emotional depth and versatility on screen.

The film Phool Aur Patthar catapulted him to fame, while Sholay solidified his iconic status. His portrayal of the charming and mischievous Veeru remains one of the most celebrated performances in Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning over six decades, Dharmendra received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, in recognition of his contributions to the film industry.

Leaving behind a legacy that has influenced generations, Dharmendra amassed a fan base that extends beyond borders, a feat few actors have achieved.
