Sachin Tendulkar Reflects on His Moments with Ustad Zakir Hussain

Mumbai, Dec 19 (NationPress) Renowned former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is cherishing his memories of Ustad Zakir Hussain. On Thursday, this 'God of Cricket' shared a nostalgic throwback video on his Instagram, featuring his experience of learning a pitched percussion instrument.

In the video, the late maestro effortlessly played while assisting Sachin in grasping the instrument's technique. However, due to the muscle memory developed through his extensive sports training, Sachin found it challenging to initially master the art form's technique.

In his post, Sachin captioned, “Memories with the Maestro.”

Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15, creating a significant void in India's musical landscape. His influence reached countless individuals, from the young to the elderly, including those in positions of authority and the everyday person. The news of his passing was felt as a personal loss by many. Numerous figures from the film industry expressed their condolences following his demise.

Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar took to social media to share a photo of Zakir Hussain, stating, "Very pained to learn about the sad demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahab. He was a true treasure of our country's musical heritage. Om Shanti."

Veteran Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan also expressed his sorrow on X, formerly known as Twitter, sharing an old image where Zakir Hussain is seen guiding him as he plays the tabla. He wrote, “Zakir Bhai! He left us too soon. Yet, we are grateful for the moments he shared with us and the legacy he has left through his art. Goodbye and thank you.”

Oscar and Grammy-winning composer A. R. Rahman praised Zakir as an inspiration and voiced his regret for not having collaborated with him in recent times.

He remarked, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Zakir Bhai was a true inspiration, a monumental figure who brought the tabla to international prominence. His absence is profoundly felt by all of us. I regret not collaborating with him as frequently as we did in the past, despite planning an album together. You will be deeply missed. May his family and countless students around the globe find the strength to endure this monumental loss.”
