New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) The nation is united in grief as India's cricket icons, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, express their sorrow over the loss of the iconic playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai on Sunday.

Asha was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital the previous day. The announcement of her passing was made by Ashish Shelar, the Culture Minister of Maharashtra, outside the hospital. Her final rites are scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4:00 pm.

Sachin, who had a personal connection with Asha Bhosle, posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, reflecting on how he will always cherish the legacy of the Padma Vibhushan awardee through her music.

"Today marks a profoundly sorrowful day for India and music enthusiasts worldwide. Asha Tai was like family to us. Words seem inadequate to express the depth of our loss. In one moment, the heart is silent, and in the next, it resonates with the myriad melodies she bestowed upon us," Sachin shared on X.

"Time appears to stand still. Yet, through her timeless melodies, she will forever remain ageless. Thank you, Tai, for enriching our lives with your warmth, grace, and unforgettable music. Your absence will be felt beyond words, Asha Tai," he added.

Meanwhile, the talented Virat Kohli, currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026, shared a story on Instagram stating, "Rest in peace, Asha Bhosle Ji. Your voice has touched the hearts of millions and will eternally resonate within us. Om Shanti."

Indian cricket team's head coach Gautam Gambhir also expressed his sadness by posting a picture of Asha Bhosle on X, stating, "Devastated by the loss of the legendary Asha Bhosle Ji. Her grace and unmatched talent will forever be etched in our memories!"

Asha Bhosle, a monumental figure in the music industry, made her debut in playback singing for the Marathi film ‘Majha Bal’ in 1943. She is celebrated for her renditions of iconic songs such as ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko’, ‘Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani’, ‘Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji’, ‘O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan’, and ‘Ye Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana’. Beyond Hindi, she has sung in nearly 20 Indian and international languages.

In 2006, Asha Bhosle disclosed that she had recorded close to 12,000 songs throughout her illustrious career. She collaborated with renowned music composers such as Shankar-Jaikishan, RD Burman, OP Nayyar, Ilaiyaraaja, Bappi Lahiri, and AR Rahman. Over the years, she has received numerous accolades for her exceptional work, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in the same year.
