Chennai, May 13 (NationPress) In a move responding to his close friend Simbu's appeal, actor Santhanam has confirmed that he will take on comedian roles in certain films while also continuing to star in leading roles.
Nonetheless, Santhanam expressed uncertainty about how many comedic projects he could fit into his schedule. He emphasized that even when performing as a comedian, audiences will witness a transformed Santhanam, as he is keen on avoiding any repetition of his past performances.
During a press conference for the highly anticipated horror comedy ‘Devil's Double Next Level’, where he leads, Santhanam addressed Simbu's request for him to balance his lead roles with comedy.
Santhanam responded, “Regarding comedy roles, you won’t see the Santhanam you’re familiar with from the past. Viewers are well-acquainted with that version from television and YouTube. Therefore, we must innovate. I am contemplating how to create this new Santhanam. I’m not certain if I can play comedic roles in every film. There are already three to four projects that have secured my involvement as a hero. I even returned an advance for a film to participate in Simbu's movie. We are strategizing how to craft my role in his film.”
“Furthermore, I have a commitment with Arya. I mentioned during ‘Vadakkupatti Ramasamy’ that I would collaborate with Arya. The director of ‘Devil's Double’, Prem Anand, also has a script for us. We plan to work on that, too. I will certainly take on comedian roles, but I cannot guarantee a multitude of such characters. Most importantly, I will not replicate old roles,” Santhanam added.
At the audio launch of ‘Devil's Double’, Silambarasan remarked, “We need more films that bring joy. It has been a while since we’ve had Santhanam around. He should not only lead but also collaborate with actors and directors to create films.”
Simbu encouraged Santhanam to select projects he genuinely enjoys and to take on comedic roles for the fans of Tamil cinema.
“I envisioned my film #STR49 as a launchpad for this endeavor. Many wondered if he would agree to participate. I reassured them that a simple phone call would suffice, and he’d jump on board for my sake, regardless of the story or film. Likewise, when he called me, I felt compelled to attend his film's audio launch. Our friendship is profound,” explained the actor.
