Los Angeles, May 15 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is of the opinion that the Academy Awards failed to acknowledge Avengers: Endgame appropriately. She remarked that while the blockbuster secured a nomination for Visual Effects, it was notably absent from the Best Picture category.
“How could this film not receive an Oscar nomination?” Johansson expressed during an interview with Vanity Fair as part of a cover story promoting her upcoming directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, which is set to debut at Cannes.
She elaborated, “It was a film that should not have succeeded but did so remarkably — and it stands as one of the most successful films in history.”
Johansson emphasized that commercial success should not diminish a film's chance of receiving awards recognition, as reported by deadline.com.
The conversation about Marvel's representation at the prestigious awards has been ongoing, with Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo recently adding his thoughts on the subject.
The continuously growing MCU has garnered various Academy nominations, mainly in the Visual Effects category, including Black Panther, which won three Oscars.
All three Iron Man films have received nominations, along with all the Avengers movies, Doctor Strange, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
However, like many blockbuster films, they have largely missed out on nominations for Best Picture.
Johansson confirmed that she has moved on from the MCU, despite some of her former colleagues returning to the multiverse.
“It would be difficult for me to see how a return would make sense for my character,” she noted.
“I dearly miss my friends and would love to work with them again, but what makes my character compelling is that her journey is complete. I don't want to disrupt that, especially for the fans — it matters to them too.”
