Los Angeles, March 2 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Sharon Stone created a stir with her revealing white mini-dress during the interrogation scene of her iconic role in ‘Basic Instinct’.
More than three decades later, the actress and painter revealed the story behind the dress and its personal importance to her, according to ‘Deadline’.
In an interview with ‘The Times of London’, she recounted that after filming a TV movie in the 1980s, the studio sold off her entire wardrobe at reduced prices, which left her feeling humiliated at the thought of the production team potentially purchasing her undergarments. She reflected, “I thought, ‘Never again’. I ensured that my contracts stipulated I would retain all my film wardrobe, except for items that were studio rentals.”
According to ‘Deadline’, this decision meant that after her portrayal of murder suspect Catherine Tramell in the 1992 erotic thriller ‘Basic Instinct’ became a phenomenon, she was able to keep the iconic outfit.
However, the actress mentioned that in addition to the white mini-dress, she possesses several other mementos from the film.
She stated, “I have the white mini-dress from ‘Basic Instinct’ stored safely, but I also own numerous shoes from that film, including black split-toe Gucci heels and strappy gold-studded ones. The remaining costumes are in storage.”
On the eve of the Oscars, she was also questioned about her choice to deviate from tradition by donning a simple white shirt for the ceremony in 1998, her first red carpet appearance alongside her husband, newspaper editor Phil Bronstein.
She shared, “I had just gotten married and thought it would be a chic, sexy homage to a newspaperman to wear a white shirt with his initials on it. Since he wasn’t part of the industry, it was a lovely way to introduce him to my world.”
