Shawn Mendes Opens Up About His Thoughts on Leaving Music

Los Angeles, Dec 13 (NationPress) Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has disclosed his previous ambitions of becoming a therapist, revealing he seriously considered stepping away from music to pursue that dream.

The artist made the decision to cancel his ‘Wonder’ world tour after only seven performances in 2022 due to mental health challenges. He confessed that he "absolutely" contemplated the possibility of ending his music career altogether, according to reports from Female First UK.

In a conversation with fellow musician John Mayer on the show 'How's Life', he reflected on his backup plan, stating, "I have no idea. For real, I seriously thought about it. I actually took a small therapy course and I was like, ‘I might just become a therapist in a small town’. It’d be weird at first for everyone, and then eventually they would just get used to it."

In another part of the interview, Shawn, who recently expressed that he is still navigating his sexuality and has previously been in a relationship with Camila Cabello, mentioned that he is open to finding love again. When asked about dating, he affirmed, "Yes. For sure. I think, yeah. I guess as long as we’re living, we are healing."

According to Female First UK, the singer-songwriter believes that the "beauty" of falling in love surpasses the "suffering" that might come from being portrayed negatively in a song.

He explained, "I wouldn’t stop myself from falling in love with another songwriter. It’s a no-brainer to me that the suffering that is from hearing a song, maybe talking about you in a way you don’t want to be talked about, is not even close to the beauty of falling in love with someone for the first time. It’s a funny feeling to feel like you’re being written about, and like maybe the whole picture is not being expressed."

However, Shawn did admit that it "sucks" to hear songs that reference him.

He stated, "It sucks to feel like, it’s a funny feeling to feel like you’re being written about, and maybe the whole picture is not being expressed."
