Mumbai, April 17 (NationPress) The renowned music composer A.R. Rahman, who is gearing up for his ambitious “Wonderment” tour, has acknowledged that news and gossip surrounding him can impact his mental health. In an exclusive interview with IANS, Rahman shared insights about his preparations for the 'Wonderment' tour, the integration of AI in music, his emotional state, and more.
When asked, “Music demands a cheerful mindset; do the circulating news and rumors about you influence your mood?”
Rahman responded, “I believe every artist experiences this. There are moments when they might feel quite sad, yet they have to perform songs like ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ or ‘Hamma Hamma’. You cannot say you’re not in the mood; otherwise, they will hire someone else. Sometimes, you may feel joyous, but they expect you to deliver the most melancholic song. You must be prepared for such situations. In music, you must maintain a neutral state. You are nearly like an actor, feeling sad inside but required to project happiness.”
When further asked, “As an artist and a human, does it truly affect you when you encounter so much about yourself?” Rahman candidly remarked, ‘It does, it certainly does have an effect, but it’s part of the profession. There are ups and downs.’
For those unaware, A.R. Rahman’s wife announced their divorce in November 2024. Subsequently, a social media post gained traction, accusing Rahman of engaging in an extramarital affair with one of his band members, prompting him to issue a statement. He also declared his intention to take legal action against those disseminating defamatory information about him.
During the conversation, A.R. also addressed his health, conveying a message to his fans: “Thank you for all the love. I apologize for causing concern. The hospital provided something that went viral. I am here, healthy, thanks to all your prayers and love. See you on the 3rd at D.Y. Patil Stadium.”
In March, A.R. Rahman was hospitalized in Chennai due to chest pain.
