Mumbai, March 16 (NationPress) Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur articulated a profound thought regarding the genuine nature of stardom.
In a reflective post, he asserted that stars are not characterized by their physical attributes or six-pack abs, but rather by the emotions conveyed through their eyes. On Saturday, Shekhar utilized his Instagram platform to share an AI-generated image. He captioned it, “Introducing Rahul… I designed Rahul using AI. Can you decipher Rahul’s narrative? Is the creation of images and films through AI our future? I prompted ChatGPT’s image creator with a few descriptions of the face I envisioned, and the result was this… it still appears somewhat ‘plastic’… However, my primary concern lies in AI’s capability to render eyes in a close-up that we find believable.”
He continued, “Close-ups are fundamental in filmmaking, particularly in drama, as nothing evokes an emotional reaction quite like the close-up, especially of the eyes. This connection stems from our infancy when we closely observe the eyes of adults, particularly the pupils. When we think that by making silly faces we elicit laughter or smiles from babies, it’s likely the reverse; babies smile and giggle to provoke a humorous reaction from us. They are learning about their surroundings and how to influence others, especially adults and parents.”
His post further stated, “Despite the plethora of visual effects and AI tools at a filmmaker’s disposal, nothing surpasses the impact of a talented actor genuinely feeling (not pretending) the emotion in a close-up. Stars are not formed through six-pack physiques but through the emotions in their eyes.”
Kapur, a holder of numerous awards, including a National Film Award, is celebrated for his works such as 'Masoom,' 'Mr. India,' 'Bandit Queen,' among others.
