Mumbai, Dec 18 (NationPress) The legal counsel for Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra has asserted that no Income Tax raid has taken place at the residence of her and her husband Raj Kundra in Mumbai.

Reports in the media on Thursday suggested that their home was subjected to a raid by Income Tax officials.

According to the actress’ legal representative, Prashant Patil, he stated, “On behalf of my client, Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra, I can confirm that there is absolutely no Income Tax ‘Raid’ against my client. There is merely a standard verification process by the Income Tax officials concerning follow-ups with my client.”

He further added, “Anyone who has falsely claimed in the public arena that these events relate to the alleged case by the Economic Offence Wing will face legal repercussions in the appropriate court. For clarity, my client, Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra, reiterates that there is no Income Tax ‘RAID’ at her residence.”

Previously, the actress had firmly rejected the “baseless and motivated allegations” concerning the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police invoking Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code against her and her spouse, Raj Kundra. She expressed her views through a lengthy note on her Instagram Stories, dismissing the allegations.

She stated, “We categorically deny the unfounded and motivated claims being circulated. The matters being raised are being portrayed with a criminal tint without any legal foundation. A Quashing Petition has been filed in the High Court and is currently awaiting adjudication. We have cooperated fully with the investigation and are confident that justice will prevail, placing our trust in the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary of our nation. We kindly request the media to exercise restraint as this matter is subjudice.”

The case of fraud and cheating worth INR 60 crore involving Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband Raj Kundra was initiated by the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing following a complaint from Deepak Kothari, a businessman from Mumbai. The complaint alleges that between 2015 and 2023, he invested around INR 60 crore in Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd., a company associated with the couple, based on promises of returns and repayment.

According to the FIR, the investment was allegedly misappropriated and not returned despite multiple requests, resulting in charges. The couple has denied any criminal intent and maintains that the dispute is civil in nature, linked to a business failure and the insolvency proceedings of the company. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has issued guidelines regarding travel restrictions. The investigation is still ongoing, and no convictions have been made.
