Mumbai, April 3 (NationPress) Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who recently directed ‘I Want to Talk’, has expressed his fascination with pressure cookers. The director is captivated by the science behind these kitchen devices.
On Thursday, he took to Instagram to share a video showcasing a pressure cooker on a burner. The medium close-up was filmed from various angles as the cooker’s whistle twirled due to the internal pressure.
He captioned the post, “My love for the pressure cooker knows no bounds. To me, it is one of the greatest inventions of modern science. I am utterly obsessed with it.”
A pressure cooker utilizes high-pressure steam and water or a water-based liquid to prepare food.
The increased pressure restricts boiling and generates temperatures that are unattainable at lower pressures, significantly reducing cooking time compared to normal pressure cooking. The steam digester, developed in the seventeenth century by physicist Denis Papin, served as the initial model for the pressure cooker.
This device works by removing air from the vessel and trapping steam produced by the boiling liquid. This process raises the internal pressure to one atmosphere above ambient, enabling cooking temperatures between 100–121 °C. The combination of high thermal heat transfer from steam allows for cooking in a quarter to half the time of traditional boiling, while also conserving substantial energy.
Previously, Shoojit noted that his community of Bengalis is the most talkative. He recently posted a note on Instagram reflecting on which Indian community is the most conversational.
He stated, “Although Indians are generally recognized for their conversational flair, it’s challenging to identify a single region as the most talkative. However, if I had to choose, I would say Bengalis might just lead the way! After all, ‘adda’ (friendly chats) is a fundamental aspect of Bengali culture! What are your thoughts? Do you agree? #TalkativeIndians #BengaliAdda #IndianCulture.”
