Filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra has publicly backed actor Akshaye Khanna, calling him one of Bollywood's most gifted performers and expressing hope that the industry recognises his talent with more leading roles. The remarks come ahead of the 10 July Netflix premiere of their upcoming collaboration, 'Ikka'.

'For me, Akshaye Khanna has always been an exceptional actor. I have admired his work for many years. I genuinely hope he gets more films because he deserves them. He is immensely talented and brings tremendous depth to every role he plays,' Malhotra said in a recent interview.

The director, who has worked closely with Khanna on 'Ikka', described the actor as someone who elevates every character he portrays — a sentiment echoed by a growing section of critics and audiences who have long considered Khanna among Bollywood's most underutilised talents.

Akshaye Khanna's Career Revival

In 'Chhaava', Khanna played Rehman Dakait — also known as Rehman Baloch — a feared gangster from Karachi with political ambitions who leads the Lyari-based Baloch gang and serves as the film's principal antagonist. 'Ikka', directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by Alchemy Films, is an action thriller that casts Sunny Deol as a respected and principled lawyer, while Akshaye Khanna plays a man accused of murder whose past was profoundly shaped by Deol's character. The setup builds toward a tense courtroom confrontation between the two leads.

Notably, the film marks the first time Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna have shared screen space since the 1999 war drama 'Border' — a gap of over two decades. The cast also includes Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor in key supporting roles.
