Mumbai, July 9 (NationPress) - Actress and politician Smriti Irani, who is set to reprise her iconic role of Tulsi Virani in the reboot of ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, elaborated on how Prime Minister Modi’s vision for India’s creative sectors hinges on their immense influence.
She emphasized that, aside from their cultural significance, these industries hold remarkable potential for bolstering the national economy.
In a recent conversation with NDTV, she remarked, “Unleashing a creative force across both traditional and modern platforms has led to a total revenue generation of INR 55,000 crores. When the Prime Minister discusses the creative industries and how India can harness its socio-economic and cultural potential, it becomes a hallmark of our pride, representing not only commercial success but also cultural influence.”
She noted the stark evolution in how television is perceived today compared to 25 years ago.
Speaking on this, she stated, “Professionals in the television sector often do not receive the recognition they deserve, both in terms of revenue and the significant impact we create, which includes the entire NDTV family as well.”
“Statistics from last year reveal that television alone generated over INR 30,000 crores, while the OTT sector, now a vital aspect of storytelling in our nation, brought in approximately INR 24,000 crores,” she added.
The Indian Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry is witnessing remarkable growth, with an anticipated market size of $30.8 billion by 2024, projected to rise to $37.2 billion by 2026.
On a different note, Smriti Irani's return to the entertainment arena comes following her defeat in the previous Lok Sabha elections, where she lost the Amethi seat while contesting on a BJP ticket, succumbing to INC’s Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of 167,196 votes.
Previously, she triumphed over INC’s renowned figure Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, a seat of historical importance for INC.
