Mumbai, July 17 (NationPress) A heated exchange erupted in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday between the ministers of the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and SS-UBT legislator Aditya Thackeray.
Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar expressed strong dissatisfaction with the gestures and language displayed by both Aditya Thackeray and Bhaskar Jadhav during the session.
"If an irregularity has occurred previously, it should not be repeated. I clearly informed Bhaskar Jadhav that the right to 'right to reply' belongs to the member who initiated the discussion. Regardless of the accusations against me, I will not permit any irregularity in this House," stated Speaker Narwekar, showcasing his firm stance.
Following Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s response to the opposition's motion for discussion under Rule 293, SS-UBT legislator Bhaskar Jadhav requested the Speaker for permission to pose additional questions (right to reply).
However, the Speaker denied the request, indicating that since Thackeray had initiated the discussion but was no longer present, he would not extend this opportunity to others. Upon being denied, Jadhav reacted aggressively, gesturing towards the Speaker and raising his voice.
This prompted ministers and MLAs from the Shinde camp to move into the Well of the House.
In the midst of this turmoil, Aaditya Thackeray entered the Assembly, gesturing at the Shinde Sena ministers, which further escalated tensions. Shinde Sena ministers reciprocated with gestures and loud remarks, while Uddhav Sena MLAs also became increasingly agitated.
Due to the chaos, the Assembly proceedings were suspended for 10 minutes. Upon resuming, Minister Shambhuraj Desai called for Jadhav's suspension, citing derogatory remarks made about the Speaker.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the need for respecting the dignity of the House, questioning the appropriateness of Jadhav's gestures and manner of speaking.
