Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has opened up about what makes acting a uniquely enriching profession, saying the job gives performers a rare luxury — the ability to live vicariously through entirely different lives. Her remarks came during the promotional campaign for her latest streaming release, 'System', in Mumbai on 27 May, where she appeared alongside co-star Jyotika.

The Actor's Privilege

Sinha described acting as the only profession that allows a person to step into a completely different world with every new role. Drawing a parallel with the legal world — the setting of 'System' — she noted that outsiders rarely grasp the inner workings of any profession until they inhabit it.

'You never really know from an outsider's perspective what are the actual go-ons in any other profession for that matter. Like today if I ask a lawyer, they may not know about what goes on the sets of a film or how a film is made. So it's the same for us, honestly. Like unless you've actually physically been inside a court and been a part of a proceeding, you don't really know. You don't know the preparation that goes through. You don't know how many people work on that one particular case in a firm,' she said.

She added: 'So it's like a new world altogether. And I love the fact that we as actors are able to bring that to screen so that so many more people can find out about it. So I think that's a very interesting part of our job.'

About 'System' and Her Role

'System' is a courtroom drama in which Sonakshi Sinha plays Neha, a determined young lawyer who must prove her worth to earn a partnership at the firm run by her father, portrayed by filmmaker-actor Ashutosh Gowariker. Jyotika plays a stenographer in the film. The role marks Sinha's first on-screen portrayal of a lawyer.

The film is also notable as Sinha's second OTT release, following the 2023 horror-comedy 'Kakuda'. This comes amid a broader industry shift toward premium streaming content, where established theatrical stars are increasingly finding compelling, character-driven work.
