Sonu Nigam Considers Mohammed Rafi a Divine Figure Rather Than a Mentor

Mumbai, Dec 21 (NationPress) Playback singer Sonu Nigam, who is gearing up to deliver the tribute ‘Sau Saal Pehle’ alongside a 50-member orchestra in honor of the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, has shared that he has always viewed the late artist as a God rather than just a guru.
The ‘Satrangi Re’ vocalist spoke with IANS, revealing the profound connection he feels towards the late singer, who serves as a daily source of inspiration for him.
Sonu conveyed to IANS, “Rafi sahab has been my first guru after my father and mother, as they were the ones who introduced me to his brilliance. I haven’t just seen him as a teacher; I have revered him like a God. I have worshipped him, and while I have listened to many other artists, my core inspiration has always been Rafi sahab. I am truly delighted that on his 100th birthday, I’ve been given the privilege to celebrate this milestone with his family, including Shahid Rafi, Firdaus, and the children of my guru Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Rabbani and his wife Namrata.
He also expressed, “I feel incredibly honored that out of all his disciples, I have been bestowed with such a great fortune, and I am genuinely grateful to God.”
There is also a biopic in development based on Mohammed Rafi’s life. When inquired if it is four decades too late to pay tribute to the legend with a biopic, he disagreed, stating that everything is predestined and will unfold at the right moment.
He remarked, “I only found out about this recently. I am very pleased. I firmly believe that you cannot orchestrate anything; it happens when it is meant to happen. For instance, many have been trying to create a biopic on Kishore Kumar, but that hasn't come to fruition yet. So, it will materialize eventually when the time is right, and the same goes for Rafi sahab’s biopic. I genuinely hope it becomes a massive success.”
‘Sau Saal Pehle’ is organized by NR Talent and Event Management and is scheduled to take place on December 24, in celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of the legend, at NMACC in Mumbai.
