Mumbai, July 10 (NationPress) Renowned vocalist Sonu Nigam took a nostalgic journey as he reflected on a poignant experience from 2013 when, mourning the death of his mother, the iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar provided him with emotional support and motherly comfort backstage.
Sonu shared a nostalgic photograph on Instagram. In this heartfelt image, he is seen kneeling on a stage with his hands clasped together, bowing to Lata Mangeshkar, who is smiling kindly while also with her hands folded.
“This moment transports me back to 2013, just a few months following my mother’s passing. I was privileged to perform at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital fundraising event held at Shanmukhananda Hall, Mumbai,” Sonu recounted in the caption.
He reminisced about how Lata Mangeshkar reassured him by saying she was there to support him.
“I was overwhelmed with emotions on that stage, and as I bowed down to Lata ji—in a state of grief and vulnerability—she tenderly held me and said, 'Main hoon na… Main hoon na…' In that moment, her words enveloped my aching heart like a mother's embrace…” he expressed.
In February 2022, Lata Mangeshkar, celebrated as the “Queen of Melody”, “Nightingale of India”, and “Voice of the Millennium”, passed away at the age of 92 due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome after a lengthy battle with pneumonia and Covid.
Sonu Nigam’s repertoire spans romantic and break-up songs, classical and devotional music, party anthems, patriotic tunes, ghazals, qawwali, rock, and pop. He has recorded over 6,000 songs across more than 32 languages throughout his illustrious career.
