Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 21 (NationPress) - Renowned Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam fondly reminisced about a memorable experience with the iconic Asha Bhosle during their tour in the United States back in 1996.
In a video shared on his social media, Sonu recounted how he would massage Asha Bhosle's feet when she suffered from a painful heel spur during the tour. He explained, “At that time, she was dealing with a heel spur. My mother had experienced the same issue, so I was familiar with how to alleviate it using my hands. She was struggling to stand properly, and I assured her that I could help. After a few performances, I visited her room and massaged her feet, and she felt much better.”
Years later, Asha Bhosle still remembered this kind gesture. “She would often ask me, ‘Do you recall when you massaged my feet there?’ I would affirm, as I had witnessed my mother endure similar pain. It's akin to a bone thorn in the heel, resulting from calcium overgrowth or something of that nature,” he shared.
Reflecting on his initial collaboration with Asha, Sonu said, “In early 1996, I had the honor of performing alongside her for the first time in Mumbai at Rashish Shah’s son’s wedding. She had a sore throat and requested me to sing her famous number, Jhoothe Naina Bole, with her. She didn’t require my help, being an exceptional singer, but she still made me part of her performance, which was incredibly meaningful to me.”
Later in June 1996, Sonu recalled performing with Asha ji and Amit Kumar ji in America, stating, “Those were unforgettable moments.”
He also shared another cherished memory, “In Vancouver, she asked if I wanted to have rice. I said yes, and she cooked for me. I considered myself fortunate.”
Regarding the legendary Asha Bhosle, her passing on April 12 left the nation in disbelief and sorrow. She was hospitalized on April 11 due to severe exhaustion and a chest infection, according to her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle. The singer passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind a remarkable legacy spanning 83 years.
