Mumbai, Aug 13 (NationPress) Padma Shri awardee Sonu Nigam has recounted a treasured memory of his son Nevaan Nigam. The renowned playback singer is gearing up to perform live for a special Janmashtami celebration and revealed that his son enjoyed dressing up as Lord Krishna during his toddler years.
The singer will share the stage with fellow playback artist Shaan for ‘Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna’.
Reflecting on his own experiences of Janmashtami, Sonu expressed, “This festival has always been a sacred and prayerful occasion in our household. I carry warm memories of my childhood from both Mumbai and Delhi, each with its unique way of honoring this special day.”
He further added, “Now that my son is a big boy, he used to love dressing up as Krishna when he was little. My sisters wish me a happy birthday every year, playfully calling me the Krishna of our family. In fact, my father was born on Janmashtami, so we celebrate his birthday as well. This year, with JioHotstar uniting everyone, it feels like those cherished moments are taking center stage.”
‘Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna’ is a follow-up to the successful ‘Ram Navami LIVE’ featuring Shri Amitabh Bachchan and ‘Mahashivratri: The Divine Night’, and will also showcase performances from Dhridha Rajput.
Shaan remarked, “The persona of Lord Krishna has always intrigued me more than any other deity. Each chapter of his life, from childhood to being the supreme teacher, is captivating. He often downplayed his powers unless necessary, yet never strayed from righteousness. As a child, I was fascinated by Dahi Handi but never got to participate. However, once I joined a Janmashtami celebration, I realized that devotion can indeed dance, and music can radiate joy. Even today, when I sing for Krishna, I am still that same child, just on a larger platform.”
With ‘Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna’, audiences will have the unique opportunity to enjoy live feeds from esteemed Krishna temples across India and beyond, including Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, Shri Radharaman Temple in Vrindavan, Shree Dwarkadish Temple in Dwarka, Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri, and ISKCON temples in Juhu, Mayapur, Vrindavan, Sydney, and Budapest.
‘Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna’ is scheduled to premiere on August 16, 2025, on JioHotstar.
