Kevin Spacey Avoids Civil Trial in London After Settlement with Accusers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 19 (NationPress) Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey has successfully evaded a civil trial in London scheduled for October. The actor has come to a settlement with three individuals who filed lawsuits against him regarding allegations of sexual assault.
The plaintiffs claimed that Spacey had assaulted them during the years 2000 to 2013, leading to a determination in November that he would face a new trial, according to reports by Variety.
No details regarding the settlement have been disclosed. Spacey, who has consistently denied all accusations leveled against him, was previously cleared of sexual assault charges brought by four men in a U.K. criminal trial in 2023.
As reported by BBC News, two of the accusers subsequently filed civil lawsuits in London's High Court. One of these individuals had initiated a civil suit against Spacey in 2022, but the proceedings were paused during the criminal trial.
This man, who has been given anonymity by the court, alleges that he “experienced psychiatric harm and other financial damages” due to the purported sexual assault that occurred in August 2008.
Additionally, another plaintiff claims that Spacey assaulted him on 12 occasions between 2000 and 2005.
The third accuser, Ruari Cannon, chose to forgo his anonymity and contends that Spacey groped him at a party in 2013 while he was performing in a play at the Old Vic, where Spacey served as artistic director.
Cannon elaborated on his allegations in the 2024 Channel 4 docuseries ‘Spacey Unmasked’, to which Spacey responded, “Whenever I have had the opportunity to adequately defend myself, the accusations have not held up to scrutiny and I have been exonerated.”
In addition, Spacey faced a civil lawsuit in New York in 2022 from actor Anthony Rapp regarding similar allegations of sexual assault.
