Mumbai, Nov 30 (NationPress) Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has recently shared his reflections on his enduring connection with the iconic composer duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, he highlighted that the essence of great film music is born from the emotional synergy between a director and the music composers, rather than mere financial transactions. Subhash revealed that he was profoundly moved by a video of a 95-year-old woman from a village singing “Bada Dukh Dina” with remarkable enthusiasm. This touching rendition prompted him to connect with the legendary composer Pyarelal ji over video call to reminisce about their rich emotional collaboration in the 1980s and 1990s.
The esteemed director expressed his joy in reconnecting and extended wishes for Pyarelal ji’s health and longevity, while also honoring the memory of the late Laxmi. Along with their nostalgic monochrome photograph, Subhash shared, “Only emotional harmony between a director and music composers can create great film music. It’s not about money transactions.”
Subhash continued, “I came across a social media reel of a 95-year-old woman singing ‘Bada Dukh Dina’ in full tune and vigor, which inspired me to call Pyarelal ji and discuss our authentic emotional connection that brought such music to life in the 1980s and 1990s. We felt a wave of happiness. May God bless him with a long and healthy life. We also miss Laxmi ji dearly.”
Laxmikant–Pyarelal were a legendary Indian composer duo, consisting of Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar. Over their impressive career from 1963 to 1998, they composed music for approximately 750 films and collaborated with numerous esteemed filmmakers.
The duo’s journey began with the successful film Parasmani, directed by Babubhai Mistri, where two of their tracks, “Hansta Hua Noorani Chehra, Kali Zulfen, Rang Sunehra” and “Woh Jab Yaad Aaye, Bahut Yaad Aaye,” became major hits featured in the annual Binaca Geetmala. They solidified their reputation further with the soundtrack for the blockbuster musical drama Dosti produced by Rajshri Productions.
