Jason Sudeikis calls dating 'daunting' as a single dad to two kids
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor-filmmaker Jason Sudeikis has described the prospect of dating as ‘daunting and overwhelming’, saying his two children remain his top priority as he navigates single life in his 50s. The Ted Lasso star opened up about his romantic outlook on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast hosted by Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco.
What Sudeikis said about being single
Confirming he is currently single, Sudeikis told the hosts, ‘I like being in relation to people.’ He added, ‘I'm not at a point in my life where, you know, where it feels good or fulfilling to date numerous people all at once. Yeah, that feels daunting and overwhelming, especially with being a parent.’
The actor shares son Otis, 12, and daughter Daisy, 9, with former fiancee Olivia Wilde, from whom he split in 2020 after a seven-year engagement.
Kids come first on the 'call sheet'
Sudeikis was candid that any future partner would have to accept a clear hierarchy. ‘There's also a new thing of anybody I'm dating that they are never number one on the call sheet, as the showbiz saying would go, like the kids are,’ he said.
‘Even probably more so than myself. And so then there's that little bit as you get older, you're like, “Oh God, I got to make sure my cup's full in order for other people to get the overflow.”’
Open to love and more children
The Horrible Bosses actor said he has not closed the door on settling down again or expanding his family. Asked if he wanted more children, he replied simply, ‘I would if, yeah, if I fell in love.’
Sudeikis was reportedly linked to model Keeley Hazell between 2021 and 2022, and to Elsie Hewitt in 2024. He has previously said he is still processing the end of past relationships.
Looking back on the Wilde split
In a 2021 interview with GQ, Sudeikis reflected on his breakup with Wilde, saying, ‘I'll have a better understanding of why in a year, and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it'll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.’
He added, ‘That's an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about. You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it.’
For now, the actor appears focused on parenting in Los Angeles, leaving the door open — but not the calendar — for romance.
