Los Angeles, May 20 (NationPress) Actress Jessica Biel has shared her thoughts on raising her two sons, explaining why she finds it a “tricky balance” in determining how much of the entertainment industry her children should be exposed to.
The 43-year-old actress is the mother of Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4, whom she shares with her husband Justin Timberlake, 44.
While reflecting on the challenges of parenting, Biel discussed her eldest son’s recent appearance with her at the 2024 US Open. She revealed that the decision to attend the tennis event together was made with careful consideration of Silas' passion for the sport.
On the subject of exposing him to the spotlight, she stated: “It’s a tricky one, a tricky balance. We do really try hard not to expose them in a way that they’re not comfortable with.”
Biel noted that Silas is a “huge fan” of tennis and had shown interest in attending the match, according to reports from femalefirst.co.uk.
“We discussed the presence of photographers – you know, ‘Are you comfortable with that?’” she explained. “He can’t make these decisions on his own, but we can at least talk about how he feels about it.”
“You really want to give your kids every experience. I’m not sure if it was the right choice, to be honest, but we had a great time together,” she added.
Biel and Timberlake, who tied the knot in 2012, have traditionally kept their children away from the public eye.
In August 2023, however, she made a rare exception by bringing Silas to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, where they were photographed watching Karolina Muchova compete against Naomi Osaka in the second round.
She expressed that the potential for public scrutiny of her children is always a concern. “It’s scary every time. But it’s also their life. And so it’s this really tricky, tricky thing to figure out, what’s appropriate.”
Biel emphasized that despite the occasional public appearances, she firmly opposes allowing her sons to engage with social media.
Regarding their potential future in the entertainment industry, Biel hopes they won’t pursue it until adulthood. “If he were a child actor, he’d probably work all the time. And when he’s 18 and wants to be a professional, that’s his choice. That’s what I hope to preserve for him, if possible,” she stated.
