Mumbai, June 26 (NationPress) Actor Suhail Nayyar recounted a touching experience from the filming of “Sharmaji Namkeen,” showcasing the kindness and generosity of the late legendary actor Rishi Kapoor.
Nayyar disclosed that during a pivotal emotional scene, Kapoor—having finished his work for the day—decided to remain on set to provide him with live cues. Speaking to IANS, Suhail reflected on this significant moment that deeply affected him both as an actor and as an individual. In a tense confrontation between a father and son, although Rishi Kapoor had completed his role and the crew had declared a pack-up, he chose to stay behind to support Nayyar when he learned that Suhail’s close-up shot was still pending.
“I vividly remember during a confrontational scene in Sharmaji Namkeen, Rishi ji had wrapped up his work, and the pack-up was announced. However, he inquired if my close-up was still to be filmed. Upon hearing it was, he insisted on staying back to give me cues. That act of kindness was invaluable to me. If you watch that father-son confrontation in the film, it feels incredibly authentic—just like real life,” Nayyar shared.
The film “Sharmaji Namkeen,” which features Rishi Kapoor's final performance, is directed by debutant Hitesh Bhatia. The comedy-drama was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment. Released in 2022, it uniquely stars both Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal portraying the same character. Alongside them, the film also includes Juhi Chawla, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, Isha Talwar, Suhail Nayyar, and Taaruk Raina in significant supporting roles.
Filming began in January 2020 but was unexpectedly interrupted by the passing of Rishi Kapoor on April 30, 2020. To continue the project, Paresh Rawal was cast to take on the same character and complete the remaining scenes. Ultimately, “Sharmaji Namkeen” premiered on Amazon Prime Video on March 31, 2022.
