Mumbai, Oct 29 (NationPress) Actress Sydney Sweeney is enthusiastic about her forthcoming film “Christy”, expressing her desire to “raise greater awareness” regarding domestic violence issues, a subject that she finds to be “very personal and significant”.
The 28-year-old star plays the role of boxer Christy Martin in this new biographical sports drama, and in an interview with Variety, she stated: “This issue resonates deeply with me, and I hope that through Christy's narrative, we can shed light on it. It’s personal.”
Alongside co-stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O'Brian, Sweeney is eagerly anticipating the audience's reaction to her latest work, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
She expressed: “I’m thrilled for everyone to witness Christy Martin’s journey.”
Foster mentioned that the film's abuse scenes pushed their boundaries as actors; however, the director “established a secure environment” for them.
Commenting on Sweeney, Foster noted: “As we delved deeper into the material and approached filming, I recognized her as a sensitive individual. She carries a profound responsibility to portray Christy's strength authentically.”
Foster also shared that he enjoyed collaborating with Sweeney, who has gained significant attention in recent years.
He remarked: “There’s always some buzz surrounding her. Whether positive or negative, she elicits a response. Yet, the Syd I met was different.”
“I see her as a compassionate professional, considerate to the crew, always prepared and personable. Those are qualities I value and don't see often in people at her level.”
Earlier this year, Sweeney expressed admiration for Christy Martin.
She told Vanity Fair: “I was astonished that her story isn’t more widely recognized globally; it’s one of the most harrowing yet inspiring tales I’ve encountered.”
To embody Christy in the film, Sweeney committed herself to peak physical fitness. She was also determined to perform her own boxing scenes without a stunt double.
She stated: “Every fight you see is real; we are genuinely hitting each other. We go full force. I believe authenticity is lost if a stunt double is involved or if the hits are faked.”
