The Day Anup Soni Reached Out to Yash Chopra Directly

Mumbai, Jan 8 (NationPress) Actor Anup Soni, recognized for his role in ‘Crime Patrol’, once narrated a captivating story about how he made a cold call to the late filmmaker Yash Chopra seeking work.

The actor recounted that he called a landline number, and fortuitously, Yash Chopra answered the phone, as it was a time when mobile phones had yet to gain much traction in the telecommunications landscape. A video of this incident has recently resurfaced online.

In the clip, Soni stated, ‘I found the number in the directory and called Yash Raj Films, and to my surprise, Yash Chopra picked up. I swear, mobiles hadn’t arrived back then. I introduced myself, saying, ‘I am from National School of Drama’, emphasizing NSD because some alumni from there had previously worked with him.

He continued, ‘To my astonishment, he replied, ‘Can you come over right now? I’m heading to London. Can you make it in half an hour? I have a flight to catch.’ I assured him, ‘I will be there immediately.’ I rushed over, and he received me. At that time, I weighed only 55 kgs; I must have looked so frail, a clear indication of a tired and struggling actor. I presented him with the few photographs I had.’

Anup Soni launched his career in television series like Sea Hawks and Saaya. He later transitioned from television to films, featuring in productions such as Kharaashein: Scars From Riots, Hum Pyar Tumhi Se Kar Baithe, and Hathyar. In 2004, he starred in Ashoke Pandit's film Sheen. However, he returned to the small screen to join CID: Special Bureau. He continues to pursue both film and television roles, previously appearing in the series Crime Patrol.
