Los Angeles, May 5 (NationPress) Actor Simon Pegg, known for his role as Benji Dunn alongside the legendary actor-producer-stuntman Tom Cruise since the third film in the “Mission: Impossible” series, asserts that the star “will truly risk his life for the audience”.
“I've told him, ‘You’re completely insane’ numerous times,” the English actor remarked to people.com in the latest special Mission: Impossible edition.
“But he genuinely cares that much about it.”
Since the original 1996 adaptation of the 1960s spy series, Cruise has consistently raised the stakes with each new appearance as Ethan Hunt, the agile agent for the Impossible Mission Force.
He is now preparing for his eighth and possibly final film, “The Final Reckoning”, which hits theaters on May 23.
“I've witnessed a lot of his stunts,” Pegg reflects on Cruise’s daring feats.
Recalling a memorable moment from 2011's Ghost Protocol, where Cruise climbs the exterior of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, Pegg shares, “I was leaning out of the window, seeing Tom hanging there, grinning widely, like, ‘I’m having the time of my life.’”
When asked about his favorite adrenaline-pumping scene, Pegg highlights the motorcycle-off-a-cliff stunt from 2023’s Dead Reckoning Part One.
Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie’s cast and crew “were all up there together” watching in astonishment, Pegg recalls.
“It was nerve-wracking, because we would literally see [Cruise] vanish, and then we had to wait for the radio call of ‘good canopy’ [indicating his parachute opened safely],” he explains. “It was a moment that took your breath away.”
Another stunt that Pegg describes as more on the “interesting” side? The opening scene of 2015’s Rogue Nation, where Cruise clings to the side of a military aircraft during takeoff.
“That was the first time I noticed him feeling nervous. There were numerous variables involved in that stunt... many things could have gone awry. Every detail is meticulously managed. The stunt team is exceptional. Tom is undoubtedly dedicated to ensuring he is prepared.”
