What are the Harsh Realities Behind the Glamour of the Entertainment Industry as Revealed by Upasana Singh?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 30 (NationPress) Actress Upasana Singh, widely recognized as Bua from The Kapil Sharma Show, has shared the stark truths of the entertainment sector, peeling back the layers of its sheen and splendor.
In a candid discussion with IANS, Upasana Singh opened up about the often hidden, demanding aspects of the entertainment world, revealing how it frequently masks its struggles, fierce competition, and numerous uncertainties under a façade of glamour.
“People don’t see the darkness behind the film industry. A common person thinks it is a glamorous life and that actors are living very comfortably,” she stated. She further elaborated on the grim realities she encountered upon becoming the general secretary of CINTAA.
“When I assumed the role of general secretary, individuals began approaching me with their issues. They expressed that they could barely earn Rs 1,200 in a year. Some mentioned they only get work for four or five days, with coordinators taking a 25% cut from a payment of Rs 5,000. To make matters worse, they receive their earnings after 90 days or even 120 days, despite putting in relentless effort.”
“Consider this: If someone earns Rs 5,000 per day, Rs 25,000 is deducted as TDS. After that, the coordinator takes his share. So how much is actually left? This is in a city like Mumbai, where rent is exorbitant, school fees for children must be paid, and there are various household expenses,” she added.
She also pointed out that many actors struggle to cover their medical costs.
“I discovered that numerous individuals cannot even afford to seek medical attention. They struggle to manage their homes, pay for their children’s education, and survive in the industry,” she lamented.
“I felt heartbroken because, as an actress, I have been fortunate. I have received good roles and many blessings. However, witnessing the plight of these individuals deeply affected me. We are now continually striving to assist them,” she remarked.
Having spent nearly four decades in the entertainment field, Upasana Singh has enjoyed a diverse career across both film and television. She has appeared in notable Hindi and Punjabi films such as Judwaa, Hulchul, Hungama, Golmaal Returns, and Chak De Phatte.
On television, Upasana Singh gained immense popularity for her comedic roles in shows like Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, where her character Pinky Bua became a fan favorite.
