Chennai, May 17 (NationPress) National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu praised actor Soori on Saturday for reprimanding certain fans who ate food placed on the floor as part of their prayers for the success of his latest movie, 'Maaman'.
Directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj, 'Maaman', featuring Soori and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles, premiered on Friday. Eager to see their hero's film succeed, some of Soori's devoted fans in Madurai offered prayers at a Murugan temple and ate 'Mann Soru' (food in sand).
Upon hearing about this, Soori reportedly criticized his fans, expressing that he felt embarrassed to refer to those who consumed Mann Soru for his film's success as his younger brothers. He remarked, "This is foolishness. A film will succeed if it has a good story. Eating Mann Soru will not influence its success. This pains me. They could have spent that money on proper meals for four people. Those who do such things are not worthy of being my fans."
Soori's firm stance has garnered admiration from Vairamuthu.
Vairamuthu congratulated Soori for candidly addressing his fans who consumed Mann Soru in hopes of his film's success. He stated, "You can cultivate crops in soil, but the soil itself cannot become food. It takes bravery for an actor to say that those lacking such basic common sense cannot be his fans."
Vairamuthu added, "If all heroes had disciplined their fan bases similarly, both art and culture would have advanced."
'Maaman', centered on the love a boy has for his maternal uncle, was released globally on May 16 this year.
In addition to Soori, the film features Jayaprakash, Rajkiran, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Bala Saravanan, Viji Chandrashekar, Baba Baskar, Nikhila Shankar, and Master Prakeeth Shivan among others.
