What Inspired Director Vikarnan to Create Kavin's 'Mask'?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Nov 23 (NationPress) Director Vikarnan Ashok, whose recently launched Tamil film 'Mask', starring actor Kavin in the lead role, has made a remarkable debut, has now revealed that the idea behind the film's storyline stemmed from a real estate fraud that affected both him and his family.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the director shared the source of his story, stating, "This experience was personal. I fell victim to a real estate scam."
Further elaborating, he noted, "Fraudsters often target middle-class individuals, knowing they may be reluctant to retaliate. The middle class faces monthly obligations, such as EMIs, and must maintain a regular job, making protests difficult."
Vikarnan continued, "I became a target of such a scam. When educated individuals are deceived, they naturally feel angered. But the challenge remains: how can they express that anger? I began to ponder what might happen if they had the chance to respond, and that sparked the film's concept."
As for whether his family has recovered their lost funds due to the scam, Vikarnan mentioned, "After 17 years, we finally received our money back in June 2025."
The film premiered globally on November 21 of this year, produced by Black Madras Films.
Actress Andrea Jeremiah not only produced the film but also plays the role of the antagonist.
This isn't Andrea's first venture as a villain; she previously portrayed a similar character in director Vetri Maran’s 'Vada Chennai'.
The film, which has generated significant buzz among cinema enthusiasts, features music composed by G V Prakash, a National Award-winning music director, and stunning cinematography by acclaimed director of photography R D Rajashekar.
The editing was handled by Ramar, while art direction was overseen by Jacki and Vijay Iyyappan.
Jointly produced by Andrea and S P Chockalingam, the film is being presented by Grassroots Film Company, led by director Vetri Maran.
